Germany is rejecting Italy’s proposal to bring forward the EU’s review of the ban to stop new combustion engine vehicle sales by 2035 as it would cause uncertainty for the industry, German Environment Minister Steffi Lemke said, cited by Reuters. 

  • Last month, Italy has filed an official proposal to bring forward the review of the EU’s planned combustion engine vehicle ban from 2035 by one year to 2025.
  • "Germany will not entertain discussion on potentially watering down the European CO2 emission performance standards ... the German government does not support the Italian government's proposal," Lemke said.
