EMISSIONS: UK Eyes Support for Two CCS Projects
EMISSIONS
The UK government will support two carbon capture and storage projects, as part of a £22bn investment plan for the sector over the next 25 years, with announcements anticipated on Friday, it said, cited by Financial Times.
- The two projects are the HyNet project which will capture emissions from factories and plants in north-west England and north Wales, while the East Coast Cluster will store Teesside's industrial emissions beneath the North Sea.
- HyNet involves companies including Italian oil producer Eni and plans to capture emissions from oil refining and hydrogen.
- The East Coast Cluster involves BP and Equinor – who are planning to build a gas-fired power plant with CCS.
