ENERGY: Israel’s Karish Hits Oil & Gas High While Egypt Output Struggles: MEES

ENERGY

Israel’s Karish gas project has seen output increasing haltingly, but is now setting records, according to MEES.

  • Gas production hit 660 mcf/d for August. Q2 oil sales also hit a record of 17.6k b/d.
  • Boosting Karish has not been without issues, partly due to Karish field’s high oil content, MEES said.
  • Continued delays to the installation of a second oil processing train which would take liquids capacity to 32k b/d has forced a throttling back of output at the most oil rich of the four production wells.
  • Rising output from Karish comes as gas output from Egypt, one of Israel’s key gas markets, fell to a seven-year low of 4.808 bcf/d in July.
  • Output from Shell’s West Delta project in Egypt’s offshore Med fell to just 222 mcf/d and 4k b/d of condensates for 2023-24 financial year to June, down 300 mcf/d on the previous year.
  • By comparison, production was over 2bcf/d in 2008.
