EP Vote in Favour of Resolution Condemning Release of Funds to Hungary

  • The European Parliament vote in favour of a resolution condemning the release of EU funds to Hungary and calling for a halt to the disbursement of the money. The resolution was debated by MEPs yesterday.
  • While the resolution is non-binding, it boosts pressure on the Commission and EU member states to take a harder line on the release of further funds to Hungary.
  • It is the European Commission’s executive body that have the final say on EU fund matters, and they have made their position clear that the remaining EUR 20bln will remain frozen until all necessary conditions are fulfilled.
