EU Discuss Sanctioning 11 Russian Vessels

OIL

The EU is proposing sanctions against 11 Russian vessels as it works on the 14th sanctions package since the invasion of Ukraine.

  • If approved, the ban would stop the ships from accessing EU ports and anchorage zones.
  • The vessels being targeted include four fuel tankers, two crude tankers, two gas-storage units used in Novatek PJSC’s future project to transship liquefied natural gas on the Kamchatka peninsula, and a cargo ship according to Bloomberg.
  • The ban would apply to insurance and technical assistance at European ports.
  • Several of the ships are already targeted by US sanctions.
  • The European Commission has also proposed targeting several LNG projects and banning the transshipment of Russian LNG from the EU to third countries as part of this sanctions package.
