EU Executive Backs Plan to Release Funds for Poland

The EU’s executive arm has recommended releasing EUR5.1bln ($5.6 billion) in funds earmarked for Poland as part of the bloc’s efforts to reduce dependence on Russian energy supplies and diversify its green sources, Bloomberg reported earlier today.

  • The maximum amount of non-conditional pre-financing that Warsaw could access is a fifth of combined EUR2.8bln in grants and EUR22.5bln in additional loans requested in August under the so-called RepowerEU chapter, a European Commission spokesperson said on Tuesday.
  • EU finance ministers must confirm the European Commission’s recommendation, which is expected to happen at their meeting on Dec 8.
