EU Gas Storage Injection Rates Increase to Near Normal

Total European gas storage was up to 73.41% full on June 16 according to GIE compared to the five year seasonal average of 63.0% with net injection rates increasing back to near normal in recent days.

  • Net injections rates have risen over the last week from 44.5% below the previous five year average levels in the week to June 9 to just 28.5% below normal in the week to June 16. Injection rates have even risen just above normal on June 15-16.
  • Net injections averaged 2,759GWh/d in the week to June 16 compared to the five year average for the period of just under 3,860GWh/d.
  • Injection rates have averaged 31% below normal since the start of April and a continuation at this rate would bring European storage up to the EU target of 90% by September 11.
  • Storage in Germany is at 187.15Wh (75.6% full), Italy at 157.7TWh (78.8%), Netherlands at 96.05TWh (66.7%), France at 81.8TWh (63.5%). and Austria at 81.2TWh (80.8%).
