EU Gives Green Light for Power Grid Measures

The EU has approved a set of measures to increase the resilience of the EU power network and to create a further interconnected electricity system in a move to ensure energy security and decarbonise the region, according to the EU, cited by ReNews.biz.

  • Member states highlighted the need for an EU “Supergrid” to integrate more renewables, support electrification, stabilize prices, and increase energy security, according to Belgium’s Minister for Energy Tinne Van der Straeten.
  • The council also brought forward the need to tackle the challenges of rising network congestion.
  • If needed, the commission will also identify other issues and develop additional measures to improve the planning, selection and implementation of cross-border infrastructure.
