Germany reached an in-principle agreement with the EU for state support for the country’s plan to tender 10GW of hydrogen-ready gas-fired capacity, paving the way to start tenders this year, sources told Reuters.

  • Germany expects to receive an EU document outlining the informal agreement on Friday, the sources said.
  • Germany is expected to present its delayed power plant strategy before the summer break, economic minister Robert Habeck said on Thursday.
  • First tenders are expected to take place later this year. All tenders are expected to be issued by 2026.
  • The delay was due to disagreements on subsides for future plants, Habeck said.
