EU LNG Imports Make Strong Start in Dec: Platts

LNG

Delivered imports of LNG into Europe so far in December have hit 1.39m mt, according to Platts.

  • Imports are already elevated following a six-month high intake in November at 11.04m mt.
  • The Netherlands is taking the largest, at 0.36m mt, followed by Turkey at 0.27m mt and the UK at 0.2m mt.
  • The US has supplied around 70% of the arrivals so far, followed by Russia at 11% and Algeria at 10%.
  • Around 5% of the total has also come from Egypt which recently restarted its exports following war-related disruption to flows from Israel. It loaded three cargoes in November according to ICIS data.
  • While imports are robust and colder weather sets in, prices have remained under pressure as the market remains bearish on gas prices.
  • Healthy storage levels and high LNG supply from the US is outweighing any pickup in withdrawal levels. Asian demand is also fluctuating, Platts said.
