EU & UK LNG Capacity to Increase 6.8Bcf/d by End of 2024

Additional Floating Storage and Regasification Units and existing capacity expansion will increase LNG import capacity in the EU and UK by 34%, or 6.8Bcf/d by 2024 compared with 2021, according to GIIGNL.

  • Regasification capacity is expected to increase by 5.3 Bcf/d by the end of 2023 and by an additional 1.5 Bcf/d by the end of 2024.
  • LNG regasification capacity only increased 2.8 Bcf/d (16%) in the last 10 years from 17.5 Bcf/d in 2012 to 20.2 Bcf/d in 2021.
  • Approximately 1.7 Bcf/d capacity will be added in the Netherlands, Poland, Finland, Italy, and Germany this year including 0.8 Bcf/d from the new EemsEnergy terminal in the Netherlands and 0.7 Bcf/d at Wilhelmshaven in Germany.
  • New Capacity includes:
    • Germany: +1.4 Bcf/d from three more FSRU terminals at Lubmin, Brunsbuttel in Win22 and Wilhelmshaven in 2023.
    • Poland: +0.2 Bcf/d with expanded capacity at ÅšwinoujÅ›cie LNG terminal by Dec23.
    • France: + 0.4 Bcf/d from a FSRU vessel at Le Havre port. Online in autumn 2023.
    • Finland and Estonia: +0.5 Bcf/d from a joint FSRU terminal at Inkoo this winter
    • Italy: +0.5 Bcf/d from a FSRU near Piombino in spring 2023.
    • Greece: +0.5 Bcf/d from a FSRU at Alexandroupolis by the end of 2023
