European Natural Gas Demand 20% Below Average in July: Bruegel

Natural gas demand in Europe remains tepid with EU natural gas demand 20% below the 2019-21 average in July according to Bruegel data. Low demand has assisted gas storage up above the five year average to 88.28% full on a 9 Aug according to GIE data compared to the five year average for this time of year of 74.1%.

  • Industrial demand in the region had risen to 90% of the average in June but declined in July back to 85%. Household demand was also at 85% of the average in July while power demand was 76%.
  • Earlier this week EON CEO highlighted the continued risk for prices this winter urging homes and businesses to continue to conserve gas and power.
