Exxon Mobil May Have to Halt Gravechon Refinery Due to Strikes

REFINING

Exxon Mobil says it may have to halt its Gravechon refinery in northern France if strike actions continues.

  • “If this continues, we may have no choice but to suspend production from the refinery,” the company said Tuesday.
  • Around 200 workers are on strike, an FNME-CGT union member said last week.
  • Striking workers have been blocking delivery trucks carrying oil products, including gasoline, from leaving the ExxonMobil Chemical France's Port-Jerome-Gravenchon refinery in northern France.
  • Last month, ExxonMobil Chemical France said it would shut down the steam cracker and close chemical production at Gravenchon this year, prompting the strikes.
  • "We regret that this may impact our ability to supply certain products," the ExxonMobil spokesperson said last week, adding that units that could be impacted make polyethylene, polypropylene and resins.
