FED: /FEDSPEAK UPDATE: The Federal Reserve announced late Thursday that Chair
Powell will be speaking at 1000ET/1500BST on Fri Aug 23 on 'Challenges for
Monetary Policy', at the Jackson Hole symposium (Aug 22-24).
- Reminder: The full agenda for Jackson Hole is usually kept under wraps until
the Thurs evening of the event, in this case 2000ET on Aug 22 (at same time as
KC Fed President George makes introductory remarks).
- Note a report by the US edition of the Spectator 'hears' Powell has banned any
public appearances by Fed Board members (though not Regional Fed Presidents):
"Appearances at conferences have been canceled, all scheduled interviews have
been abandoned and any comments on or off the record are outlawed."
- Vice Chair Quarles will be speaking on 'Community Development" in Salt Lake
City, Utah at 1800ET/2300BST on Tue Aug 20; presumably if the Spectator report
is legit, Quarles will not be speaking about current monetary policy (as
suggested by the title of his speech anyway).
