IRELAND
IRELAND: Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe will present 2020 budget later today,
with expectation of the creation of contingency funds to deal with Brexit.
- Around EUR900mn-1bn expected to be set aside to deal with Brexit and an
additional EUR650mn to be borrowed to ameliorate impact of a no-deal Brexit if
necessary.
- This will be the extent of Brexit contingency funding though, with Donohoe
stating "deal or no deal, I will not be doing another budget".
- This morning Donohoe stated there would be "no surprises" in the budget, with
most measures such as increase in stamp duty, a hike to the carbon tax, and a
50% increase in excise duty on cigarettes all well signalled ahead of the
delivery of the budget.
