Finance Minister To Propose 2023 Budget Increase

COLOMBIA
  • The government will propose an increase of 11 trillion pesos to the 2023 budget to 402.5 trillion pesos ($90 billion), which lawmakers will vote on next week, Finance Minister Jose Antonio Ocampo told reporters on Tuesday. (Bloomberg)
  • The government won’t take on additional debt to finance the budget and plans to use provisions from stronger than expected tax revenue and surpluses from different public institutions.
    • Around 8 trillion pesos will be used to finance projects of peace, environment, and rural development, among others, while the government aims to increase spending on pensions and wages.
  • Separately, Ocampo said a United Nations tax convention should reform global transfer pricing standards that have undermined revenue generation in developing countries. (Bloomberg)
  • “The current system of transfer pricing based on the arm’s length principle is no longer fit for today’s economy and merits adjustment,” Ocampo said on Tuesday at a virtual event.
