Finland’s Risk Of Winter Power Outages Rises

The risk of short power outages has increased in Finland due to uncertainty in domestic production and imports, the Finnish energy authority said.
- “Sufficient electricity in Finland is more uncertain than before in the coming winter," the Energy Authority said.
- "Several simultaneous failures in domestic production or transmission connections can lead to electricity shortages even with short notice," it said.
- Finland’s new Olkiluoto 3 nuclear reactor has been facing delays and will begin regular power production only end-Jan 2023 at the earliest.
- “The investigation into the damage at Olkiluoto 3’s feedwater pumps will continue still for some weeks, and its impact on the schedule cannot be estimated”, according to TVO.
- The Estlink 1 interconnector between Finland and Estonia went down on 22 Nov and is eyed to restart on 4 December, TSO Elering said.
