Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has confirmed that New Zealand has recorded its first locally transmitted cases of COVID-19 in 102 days.

  • In a late-night news conference, Ardern said that 4 cases had been confirmed, with all 4 individuals coming from the same family.
  • The source of the family's infection is not yet known.
  • New Zealand had implemented the most effective lockdown procedures worldwide, with the country returning to full normality with no social distancing in place and strict quarantine measures for those entering the country.
