BOND SUMMARY
BOND SUMMARY: Focus today will be on US nonfarm payrolls, which could prove to
be the catalyst for a shift in Fed policy. Elsewhere, despite signs from the
White House that progress has been made on border security talks with Mexico,
markets remain spooked by the US' increasingly erratic trade policy.
- USTs are trading a touch stronger. Current yield levels: 2-year 1.868%, 5-year
1.876%, 10-year 2.117%, 30-year 2.615%.
- Following yesterday's ECB meeting, speculation is rising that the central bank
could be teeing up for additional monetary easing.
- French OATs are trade marginally stronger, while Italian yields are 4-6bp
lower on the day.
- In what could prove to be only temporary respite for the two main political
parties in the UK, Labour managed to win the Peterborough by-election and fend
off Nigel Farage's Brexit Party, which has seen its lead in the national opinion
polls extend to 6pp according to the latest YouGov survey. Gilt yields are ~1bp
higher from yesterday's close.
