FOREX: Yen Outperforming, While A$/NZ$ Struggle

Risk-sensitive currencies are underperforming again today with Aussie and kiwi little changed against the US dollar which is lower (BBDXY -0.1%). Equities that are trading are mixed with the S&P e-mini slightly higher. Apart from the foiling of a possible attack on former US president Trump, there has been little news with Japan, Korea and China closed today. 

  • The yen continues to appreciate with USDJPY down 0.2% to 140.53, close to the intraday low. The currency has found support from risk adverse trades but also expectations that the Fed will ease on Wednesday and that the BoJ’s next move will be a hike, even if it isn’t on Friday.
  • AUDUSD is slightly higher at 0.6710, despite lower commodity prices, after breaking briefly below 67c early in the session. AUDJPY has trended lower and is down 0.2% to 94.28.
  • NZDUSD is little changed at 0.6156, close to the intraday low of 0.6154. AUDNZD has continued its trend higher and is up 0.1% at 1.0898.
  • EURUSD is 0.1% higher at 1.1088 but the Swiss Franc is outperforming and EURCHF is down 0.1% to 0.9394.
