French Europe Min: Direct Talks Between Macron & Johnson 'Not Desirable'

France's European Affairs Minister Clement Beaune has stated that direct talks between UK PM Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron are 'not desirable', and that Macron retained 'full confidence' in the EU's chief negotiator Michel Barnier.

  • Beaune says that a deal is still possible and that both sides are still working on it.
  • Beaune's comments come at the same time as wire and social media reports from a French official offer a different view, stating that no agreement will be finalised at tonight's meeting between Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels as the two sides' positions are too far apart. Adds that they think the likelihood of a no-deal Brexit is growing.
