French Nuclear Output At Highest in 2 Weeks

ELECTRICITY

French nuclear generation has risen to 35.36GW as of Friday morning, the highest level since 17 August, after a period of hot weather forced some nuclear reactors to curb output, RTE data show.

  • The five-day moving average of France’s nuclear generation stood at 34.895GW.
  • EdF currently has 36 reactors available, equal to 66% of capacity. Availability reached an August low of 53% on 10 August.
  • Looking ahead to the winter period, EdF’s CEO Luc Remont said earlier this week: “We’re heading into the winter with much more confidence than in the past winter.”
  • EdF is currently replacing faulty pipes at a faster pace and there will be enough reactors operating during the winter period, he added.
