French Nuclear Output Remains Above Seasonal Normal in June

French nuclear generation remained above the five-year average so far this month, despite curtailments during the last weekend amid high renewables output.

  • Nuclear generation averaged 35.41GW on 1-4 June, compared with the five-year average of 34.09GW. French nuclear output averaged 37.54GW so far today.
  • Nuclear generation in France averaged 37.21GW in May, up from 33.68MW from the same month last year.
  • France nuclear availability was reduced last weekend, when output fell to a daily average as low as 32.38GW on 2 June, amid high renewables output.
  • French nuclear availability has been stable on the day at 68%, or around 41.91GW, as of Tuesday morning, RTE data showed, cited by Reuters (see table).
  • The planned maintenance at the 1.33GW Paluel 2 nuclear facility has been extended by four days until 14 June. Works at the 880MW Bugey 4 reactor have been extended by ten days until 23 June. 1.33GW Flamanville 1 had a forced halt on Thursday evening and is currently ramping output back up, remit data showed. Planned works at Cattenom 3 have been extended by one day until 6 June.
  • Looking forward, French nuclear output is expected to fall by 9% in June from May, with about 59% of availability, according to BNEF.
