Futures Point to Higher Wall Street Open Post-Holidays

Stock futures in the US are indicating a positive open on Wall Street later today, with the NASDAQ future modestly outperforming. The Asia-Pac close was mixed, while European markets see a more positive performance so far. Discretionary names are gaining alongside staples on the continent, with energy and utilities the main laggards.

  • Japan's NIKKEI 225 closed up 6.9 pts or +0.03% at 27626.51 and the TOPIX ended 2.21 pts lower or -0.11% at 1926.58. China's SHANGHAI closed up 43.535 pts or +1.36% at 3243.447 and the HANG SENG ended 22.97 pts lower or -0.12% at 19202.73.
  • Meanwhile, the German Dax trades up 38.32 pts or +0.3% at 12797.97, FTSE 100 up 22.54 pts or +0.31% at 7309.6, CAC 40 up 5.15 pts or +0.08% at 6097.75 and Euro Stoxx 50 up 4.58 pts or +0.13% at 3494.2.
  • Dow Jones mini up 178 pts or +0.57% at 31483, S&P 500 mini up 18 pts or +0.46% at 3943.25, NASDAQ mini up 78.5 pts or +0.65% at 12181.75.
