German August Gas Demand Stood 16.9% below the 2018-21 Average

German natural gas consumption last month stood 16.9% below the 2018-2021 average, compared with 20.2% below the average in July, Bnetza data showed.

  • Industrial gas demand in August rose by 5.57% on the month to 1.043TWh/d. Gas demand from households and small businesses declined by 16.4% month on month to 194GWh/d.
  • The IEA said this week European industrial gas demand has started to show first signs of a recovery in August. Industrial gas demand in Germany was up by over 15% year on year on August.
  • German weekly gas demand last week stood 14.9% below the 2018-2021 average, compared with 20.5% the week prior.
  • German gas reserves stood at 94.03% of capacity on 5 September, up from 93.86% a week earlier.
