German Gas Demand Falls 9.9% in Week to June 30: Bnetza

German natural gas consumption in the week to June 30 fell 9.9% from the previous week and was 18.9% below the 2018-21 average, Bnetza data showed. Industrial demand fell 5.4% from the previous week while demand from households and small businesses was down 29.3%.

  • Industrial gas consumption fell to 1,070GWh/d last week compared to 2023 levels of 1,028GWh and 18.1% below the 2018-21 average. Gas consumption from electricity generation is also included in the data.
  • Demand from households and small businesses fell to 186GWh/d last week, compared to 206GWh/d in 2023 and 23.5% below the 2018-21 average.
  • German gas demand stood 12.1% below the 2018-21 average the week prior.
  • Natural gas inventories in Germany are up to 81.86% full on July 2 from 79.38% a week earlier with injection rates back near normal so far in July after seeing above normal since June 22.
