German Gas Use for Energy Output Fell 10.1% YoY in 1H23

NATURAL GAS

German natural gas use for energy production in the first half of this year declined by 10.1% year on year amid higher prices and lower power demand due to a manufacturing downturn, AGEB data showed.

  • Gas production for energy use stood at 403.8TWh, or a 26.1% share of the total use, in the first six months of this year, compared with 449.4TWh for the same period a year earlier.
  • Total energy use declined by 7.1% on the year to 1,544TWh, or 5,560PJ.
