German Suffering Tight Diesel Spot Supply: Argus

OIL PRODUCTS

Prompt spot supply of diesel is tightening from a low base, amid maintenance, refinery issues and a lack of available barges on the Rhine, Argus said.

  • Argus said a supplier has severely restricted spot diesel from Shell’s 340k b/d Rhineland complex. Shell has not commented.
  • Supply is also reduced at the 207k b/d Neustadt-Vohburg refinery and at Miro consortium's 299k b/d Karlsruhe refinery, partially shut since Oct. 12 Argus added. Suppliers at Karlsruhe limiting to one or two trucks of diesel per customer.
  • Maintenance at other refineries along the Rhine has also shrunk available supply.
  • Delays to barge arrivals is stymieing resupply of diesel stocks, with barge loadings at ARA facilities interrupted by storm Ciaran.
  • The limited supply is partially alleviated by falling demand from diesel in Germany, on a downward trajectory since October, Argus added.
