Germany Not Expecting Energy Shortages This Winter: Habeck

Germany is not expecting energy shortages this winter according to economy minister Robert Habeck.

  • Habeck said he is “more optimistic” that Germany will make it through without needing rolling power cuts due to full gas storage and reductions in energy use.
  • “If we manage to continue the energy saving as it is currently done, then we will have enough gas for the winter,”
  • Current cold weather in NW Europe is putting pressure on gas supplies with LNG imports at record levels. A grid operator in southwest Germany yesterday requested a demand reduction from users for an hour with imports from Switzerland helping to balance the network.
