GILTS: A Touch Stronger Alongside Bunds, Broader Macro Matters Eyed

Gilt futures are +17 at 98.35, broadly in line with Bunds. Bulls will need to push through the Aug 27 high at 99.21 to signal an end to the present corrective phase, while 98.00 provides key round-number support.

  • BoE Deputy Governor Breeden moderates a panel on “Global supervisory cooperation in times of turbulence” at 1345BST, though comments surrounding the BoE’s policy outlook may be limited. See our earlier STIR post for more colour there.
  • Guidance for the syndicated launch of the new 4.375% Jan-40 Gilt has been set, with books to close at 1000BST.
  • Gilt yields are ~1.5bps lower across the curve, while the 10-year Gilt/Bund spread remains above 170bps.
  • There is no domestic data scheduled today, leaving broader macro matters at the fore.
