Global Airline Capacity Fell 0.3% Weekly: OAG

JET FUEL

Global airline capacity is set to decline by 0.3m seats to 115.9m in the week to Aug. 21, according to OAG.

  • This is down 0.3% on the week and is 0.6% below the same period in 2019 when capacity was 116.6m seats.
  • The fall is driven by a decline in domestic capacity, which is down by 0.23m to 69.4m seats. However, domestic airline seat capacity remains 4.4% higher than at the same time in 2019.
  • International capacity softened by only 0.1m seats to 46.5m but remains 7.3% below levels in the same week in 2019.
  • International capacity reductions are spread over a broader range of regions, according to OAG, with reductions in Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Europe, and North America.
  • Capacity is expected to drop further in the coming weeks, before declining further to 97.5-98m seats when winter begins in November.
