Global Airline Passenger Capacity Falls 0.63% on Week: OAG

JET FUEL

Global airline passenger capacity is set to decline to 121.85m seats in the seven days commencing from Aug. 19, OAG said.

  • This represents a fall of 0.63% on the previous week. The fall is larger than expected, likely pointing to a sharper wind down in Northern Hemisphere’s summer travel peak.
  • This week's actual capacity fall has exceeded that predicted by the previous forward schedule's estimate by 0.3m seats. This is the largest difference between the forward and actual schedule since July 15.
  • Domestic capacity is down 0.53% on the week to 70.91m seats.
  • Meanwhile, international capacity is down 0.77% on the week to 50.94m seats.
  • OAG’s forecast shows capacity continuing to gradually decline through September, before falling sharply in late-October as air travel reaches a seasonal lull.
