Global LNG Imports Rise 16% in Week to June 30 Driven by China: BNEF

LNG

Global LNG imports rose 16% in the week to June 30 to 7.86m metric tons, according to BNEF driven primarily by mainland China.

  • Imports to mainland China increased 0.71m tons but June deliveries were 6% lower year on year.
  • India’s imports rose 0.16m tons in the week and were 48% or 0.8m tons higher year on year in June, while the monthly South Korea imports rose 0.5m y/y despite little change on the week.
  • Volumes into NW Europe and Italy edged up by 0.11m tons w/w but imports to the rest of Europe fell 0.35m tons driven by Portugal. NW Europe and Italy’s imports were almost 1.5m tons lower y/y in June.
  • Global LNG exports fell 3% on the week to 7.44m tons. A drop in supply from Russia of 0.13m tons, amid planned Sakhalin-2 maintenance since mid-June, and Australia of 0.12m tons was partly offset by smaller increases from Qatar, US and Malaysia.
