Global LNG Imports Rose 16% Last Week

Global LNG imports increased by 16% on the week to 9mn tons during 13-19 November, driven by higher imports into JKCT according to BNEF.

  • Overall JKCT imports increased by 1.15mn tons on the week to 4.78mn tons.
  • Japanese imports increased by 0.31mn tons to 1.44mn tons last week. Imports into China rose to 1.96mn tons, compared with 1.23mn tons the week before.
  • Imports into Northwest Europe and Italy edged higher last week by 0.07mn tons to 1.94mn tons.
  • Weekly LNG exports during 13-19 November fell by 6% to 7.7mn tons, due to lower exports out of Australia, partly offset by higher shipments from Qatar.
  • Australian LNG exports fell by 0.52mn tons to 1.30mn tons. Prelude is likely undergoing maintenance as no shipments have left the floating terminal since late August.
  • LNG exports out of Qatar continued to rebound – pointing to a ramp up after maintenance – to 1.64mn tons, from 1.45mn tons the week before.
