Global Weekly LNG Imports Dipped on Lower JKCT Demand

Global weekly LNG imports totaled 7.8mn tons on 6-12 November, down by 9% week on week, driven by less purchases from North Asia, BNEF data showed.

  • Imports into JKCT fell by 1.14mn tons last week to 3.70mn tons.
  • Chinese LNG purchases fell by 0.67mn tons on the week to 1.26mn tons. Taiwan imported 0.21mn tons of LNG, down from 0.51mn tons the week after. Japan’s purchases edged lower by 0.15mn tons to 1.16mn tons.
  • Imports into NW Europe and Italy rose by 0.25mn tons to 1.88mn tons.
  • On the supply side, global weekly LNG exports rose by 3% on the week to 8mn tons during 6-12 November, largely driven by higher shipments from Australia and Qatar.
  • Australian exports rose by 0.33mn tons to 1.82mn tons.
  • Qatar shipped 1.45mn tons of LNG last week, up from 1.22mn tons the week prior, and potentially indicating that maintenance at Qatar’s LNG facilities has been concluded and output ramped up.
  • US exports fell by 0.2mn tons to 1.82mn tons last week.
