Gov't Drops Migrant Plan Amid Election Campaign

  • DGP reports that the government will drop Foreign Ministry's initiative to facilitate the issuance of visas to migrant workers from Asia by having their applications considered by ministerial officials rather than consulates. A source told GDP that the project has a "purely technical nature" but "started to provoke unjustified emotions in the election campaign, which affected its reception in the media, so it will not be advanced anymore." This comes as migration has become one of the main motives of the ongoing campaign.
  • The local data docket is virtually empty today, while the NBP is in the blackout period ahead of Thursday's announcement of its monetary policy decision. The central bank will also release updated macroeconomic forecasts this week.
