Gov't's Approval Rating Drops, Cabinet Meets After Recess

CZECHIA
  • The approval rating of Prime Minister Petr Fiala's government fell to a record low of 25% in the latest CVVM survey, with only 2% of respondents declaring that they "definitely trust" the government. Seznam Zpravy cited CVVM's Jan Cervenka as noting that the drop in the government's approval rating seems to be associated with the current economic situation rather than any political developments. Furthermore, the news outlet highlighted that the growing mistrust toward the government does not need to automatically translate into proportionally worse electoral outcomes, as many disappointed voters may still see no alternative to the coalition.
  • Czechia's industrial PPI rose 14% Y/Y in July, missing the +1.5% at the margin. On a monthly basis, prices fell 0.1% M/M, in line with consensus forecast.
  • The Cabinet will meet for the first time after a two-week recess, with a media briefing expected at 13:00BST/14:00CEST.
