Government Considering Lifting Restrictions on Gasoline Exports

RUSSIA
  • Kommersant report that the Russian government is preparing to temporarily lift restrictions on gasoline exports. The export ban imposed on March 1 might be lifted for May-June and reinstated in July-August when demand increases and oil refineries undergo scheduled maintenance. The lifting of the restrictions is likely to support wholesale fuel prices, the newspaper write.
  • Immediately after the inauguration of President Putin yesterday, the government of Prime Minister Mishustin resigned in line with the Constitution. The State Duma is expected to confirm the new prime minister on May 10 and consider candidates for deputy prime ministers and ministers at the beginning of next week, Vedomosti report. Potential candidates for ministerial positions include the governors of Kemerovo, Kaliningrad and Nizhny Novgorod regions, Vedomosti’s sources said.
  • Speaking to Politico, analysts say any changes Putin could make will likely be limited and swift, in order “to secure that senior officials will continue working seamlessly, without interruptions.”
  • Note that Russian markets will be closed over Thursday and Friday for Victory Day. As such, there will be no data releases of note on the docket for the remainder of the week.
