Government Near Vaccine Contracts For All, Lescano Momentum In IEP Poll

Peru Interim President Francisco Sagasti confirmed the government are extremely close to securing contracts for enough vaccine doses for the entire population. The Head of State remarked that a second batch of the Sinopharm vaccine —consisting of 37 million doses— is being negotiated.

• On Sunday, an IEP survey confirms Accion Popular's candidate Jonhy Lescano's upward momentum in vote intention.
• The February survey indicated Lescano at 11.3%, widening the gap against rivals, including Veronika Mendoza, going into the April election.
• JPMorgan note that uncertainty still prevails as roughly 31% of the sample expressed no preference for any candidate. Prevailing fragmentation is evident with relatively low support compared to previous elections. Overall, they still see momentum favouring populist policies, with just six weeks to go.
• Vote intention for Congress also points toward continued fragmentation, which would pose further concerns regarding governability.
