Hammerfest LNG Expected to Return from Outage Today

Norway’s 6.5bcm per year Hammerfest LNG, also known as Melkoeya, halted on Saturday after an unexpected outage due to a sudden loss of power.

  • The outage is expected until 21:00CET on June 24, according to a Gassco notice.
  • The halt was caused by a failure in the backup supply from an external grid failed while the plant's own power generators were undergoing maintenance, according to a company spokesperson cited by Reuters.
  • "We plan to restart on Monday," the spokesperson added.
