Health Minister Says 'No' To Fans At Stadiums

GERMANY

German Health Minister Jens Spahn has sent a tweet stating that allowing fans to return to sports stadiums before end-Oct would 'send the wrong signal'.

  • "Thousands of spectators in the stadiums - that doesn't fit with the current infection rate. Now is the time to not take any avoidable risks. The DFL [German Football League] concept is good in theory. The decisive factor in the pandemic is everyday practice. We feel that we need to stay vigilant. In the current situation, spectators in the stands would be the wrong signal."
  • Germany was the first major European state to allow the return of football behind closed doors.
  • The country's number of new infections has crept up over the past month, with two days of over 1,000 new cases being recorded in a 24hr period in the past week after over a month without the occurrence.
