Hijacked Oil Tanker Transports 140k Tons of Iraqi Crude to Turkey

Turkey’s Tupras has lost contact with the hijacked St Nikolas oil tanker as of Thursday morning, which was transporting around 140k tons of Iraqi SOMO crude to Turkey, the firm said.

  • All Tupras refinery operations are continuing as planned and the incident has no impact on the refiner’s operations, it said.
  • Iranians have boarded the St Nikolas oil tanker on Thursday morning in the Gulf of Oman. The tanker was formerly known as Suez Rajan and had been seized by the US government for having transported 980k barrels of Iranian oil in connection to a US company according to Tanker Trackers via X.
  • The oil tanker has changed course toward Iranian waters, the UK Navy reported.
