HUNGARY: EU Devises Loophole to Bypass Hungary Veto on Ukraine

  • The EU has designed a legal workaround to sidestep Hungary’s veto on buying weapons for Ukraine with the profits from Russia’s frozen assets this year, Financial Times reports. Hungary “should not be part of the decision to use this money” as the country abstained from an earlier agreement to set aside the proceeds from Russia’s frozen assets, the report adds, citing EU chief diplomat Josep Borrell.
  • The statistics office will publish detailed budget data for May at 10:00BST/11:00CET after the preliminary reading showed the year-to-date deficit narrowed marginally last month.
