HUNGARY: Interest Rate Freeze on Retail Loans Extended Until End-2024

  • Minister of the National Economy Marton Nagy said in a statement today that the government is extending the interest rate freeze on retail loans until the end of 2024.
  • The government had said in August 2023 that the scheme would be phased out by the end of that year, but was instead extended. 
  • According to MTI, Nagy noted that the rate freeze was introduced in January 2022 and extended several times with a view to shielding households from the negative effects of the high-interest environment.
