HUNGARY: Orban Rules Out Early Elections After Rival’s Surge

  • Prime Minister Viktor Orban ruled out holding early parliamentary elections to cement his advantage in local and EU ballots following a strong showing by new Peter Magyar, Bloomberg report. Orban said the next general election will be held in 2026, giving his government time to improve on its result, according to a state television interview.
  • According to MTI, Orban said the government would continue its policy of supporting technological cooperation between companies from East and West, fielding questions on battery plants and the threat of tariffs on Chinese EVs from an opposition MP in parliament on Monday.
  • There are no major data releases scheduled for today, or indeed for the remainder of the week. Hungary’s EU Funds Minister Tibor Navracsics was scheduled to speak about cohesion policy at an event starting at 07:30BST/08:30CET.
