Hungary Teams with France’s Vinci in Bid to Purchase Budapest Airport

  • Hungary is working with French infrastructure giant Vinci SA on a plan to purchase Budapest Airport, in a deal that would hand Prime Minister Orban control of the fast-growing hub, Bloomberg reported according to people familiar with the matter. The government has lined up financing for the multi-billion dollar acquisition in a bid by Orban to boost state control of economic assets, a person directly involved in the talks said. A failed purchase attempt in 2021 valued the Budapest Airport at about EUR4.4bln ($4.7bln) including debt.
  • Hungary wants to make use of the possibility of energy cooperation with Venezuela and is exploring ways to import LNG from and export oil extraction technologies to the Latin American country, Foreign Minister Szijjarto said late last week as per MTI.
  • Prime Minister Orban is among the EU leaders attending a meeting in Berlin hosted by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. There are no data releases scheduled for today, GDP data is the highlight of the week tomorrow.
