HUNGARY: Trade Surplus Widens to EUR1.766bn in April

  • Hungary's trade surplus widened to EUR 1.766bn in April from +EUR 1.570bn in March, according to a first reading of data released by the Central Statistical Office. Imports rose 0.1% m/m, while exports rose 1.7% m/m.
  • Minutes from the latest NBH rate-setting meeting will be released at 12:00BST/13:00CET. At that meeting, the central bank cut its base rate by 50bps to 7.25%, marking a continuation from the 50bp cutting pace in April – a decision well priced by markets. See our review of that decision here.
  • Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto will speak at a panel at the Baku Energy Forum at 08:40BST/09:40CET. There are no other economic releases scheduled for today, with retail sales and industrial production figures set to cross on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
