HUNGARY: U/E Rate Unchanged in July, Economic Sentiment Marginally Higher

  • Hungary’s unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.2% (Est: 4.3%) in July, according to the Central Statistical Office. The number of unemployed fell to 209.4k from 210.3k in June.
  • Meanwhile, GKI economic sentiment edged marginally higher to -12.2 in August from -12.3 in July, according to the GKI Economic Research. Business confidence fell to -8 from -7.5 while consumer confidence rose to -24.3 from -25.9.
  • Focus next week is on the NBH rate decision (Aug 27), where the central bank is broadly expected to keep its base rate unchanged at 6.75% following an above-consensus inflation print in July.
