Industrial Output Data, Energy Committee Accepts Proposal Benefitting CFE

  • USDMXN remains shy of yesterday’s highs but is consolidating close to 1% gains following the US inflation data. Improvements for both industrial output and manufacturing production are expected on an annual basis today, with Mexico’s statistics institute will release the data at 1300BST/0800ET:
    • Feb. Industrial Production SA MoM, est. 0.2%, prior 0.4%
    • Feb. Industrial Production NSA YoY, est. 3.1%, prior 2.9%
    • Feb. Manuf. Production NSA YoY, est. 1.4%, prior 0.1%
  • The energy committee of Mexico’s Lower House accepted a government proposal to change the constitution that seeks to give the country’s state-owned electric utility Comision Federal de Electricidad, or CFE, preference in generation and transmission over private companies, Reforma reported Wednesday.
  • Separately, matching comments from her rival candidate, Mexico’s opposition presidential candidate Xochitl Galvez said that she would not carry out a fiscal reform in the first phase of a potential government at an event in Mexico City.
