Inflation Data To Temper Rate Cut Expectations

  • Above expectation inflation prints and the annual headline rate staying stubbornly high will further temper any expectations of rate cuts from the BCCh. The first meeting of the year is scheduled for January 26.
    • Excluding food and energy, goods inflation fell to 8.44% from 9.79%. Prices fell in five of the nine main components from the month prior. Household furnishings and supplies, apparel and transport accounted for most of the lower annual inflation.
  • Although at still very low levels, the latest approval rating for Chile’s President, Gabriel Boric, has risen 5pp to 35% according to a Criteria Poll.
